Kosen is regarded as one of the higher institutions of learning similar to universities and junior colleges in Japan. Nagano Kosen is the only national college in Nagano Prefecture, founded in April, 1963.
Kosen is not simply a combination of a high school and a junior college, but is equivalent to a four year university's department of technology, completed in a five year continuous program. Throughout the program, students are able to maximize their time studying in a more relaxed atmosphere free from the worry of university entrance examinations. Upon graduation, students have acquired the same level of knowledge in their specialized areas of study as their university graduate counterparts with an emphasis on practical skills which are readily applicable in modern industry.
Upon graduation, the degree, 'Associate of Engineering' is conferred.
With adequate lab facilities and equipment, students have access to hands-on training and lab work. The program enables students to acquire practical skills and methods through experiments and designing. In addition to basic theories, practical skills and application in real life situations are acquired.
Kosen graduates are highly appreciated. The ratio of job offers to graduates who seek jobs is favorable regardless of the state of economy.
It is possible for graduates to continue their studies. Two national universities of technology, numerous national and other universities throughout Japan admit our graduates as transfer students into their junior year.
